In the Studio: Paper & Press

[In the Studio, May 21, 2011 /Image & Artwork: designslinger]

Paper, paper and more paper. After narrowing the possible choices down to five, I decided to print two old carvings in two different colors on each sheet to see what was what. Glad I did. The red and yellow inks responded differently to each sample, and so did the images themselves. After letting them dry for a day I made my choice. It was surprising because I thought I'd end up with one of the typical Rives papers and found that the Canson bright white worked best and ordered a ton of it.

And here's what started this whole paper rigamerole - our press! It's not super huge and fancy, but it will definitely do the job.

I am soooo jealous! is it new?

hey ... for oprah's final days, are you doing a post on her offices? and what will happen to it ... for all us Oprah watching obsessed readers ;)

Yep, it's new and works like a charm. A post about Harpo may be in the not too distant future. Supposedly the new talk show Rosie O'Donnell is doing for OWN will be taped there. So for now it's still covered by Oprah's big umbrella.

    Wow!
    That is so exciting (press)
Can't wait to see what the future holds for that press ;) Isn't it really heavy?

hmmm, I did hear O say yesterday that the facility will stay there. I guess I thought she might pack up and move it all somewhere else. But the Rosie aspect is interesting ;)

Not sure what my mom will do now every day at 4p ;)

It's pretty heavy, about 250 punds, but we can move it around if we have to. Since summer is just around the corner, there may be more to do at 4, but once winter sets in.....?? Does your Mom get OWN?!

yes, we have cable and OWN, and I turn on OWN oprah behind the scenes on ONDemand ... so she can get her oprah fix that way ;)
I'm thinking about going to work part-time for a local printer so I can learn to use an offset and maybe have access to it ;)
